Atlas

For coaches

One sentence a class. That's the job.

Before or after class, type what you covered: “arm locks from guard, then positional sparring.” Atlas suggests the matching techniques, you confirm, and every student who checked in gets credit. No menus, no roll call, no forms.

Attendance isn't the product. Progression is.

A gym counts visits. A martial arts studio is different: every student is working toward a stripe or a belt, and that promotion rests on time at rank, the techniques they've covered and the coach's judgement. In most small studios none of it is written down. It lives in the head coach's memory.

That costs everyone. Parents ask why another child was promoted and theirs wasn't, and there's no record to point to. Students can't see what to work on next. Coaches and owners avoid software because setting it up costs more than it saves. Atlas keeps the record for almost no effort, so the conversation about progress starts from facts.

How Atlas works

  1. 1

    The coach writes one sentence

Before or after class, a coach types what it covered: “arm locks from guard, then positional sparring.” Atlas matches the words to techniques in the studio's own library and shows them as chips. The coach confirms, removes or adds one. When the match isn't clear, Atlas can ask an AI model for help, and still nothing is saved until the coach confirms.

  2. 2

Everyone who was there gets credit

Students check in by scanning the studio's code. When the class closes, every student who checked in is credited with every technique it covered. A class nobody closes closes itself at the end of the day, with the plan.

  3. 3

    Everyone sees where they stand

Coaches see each student's time at rank, classes and skills against the studio's own requirements, as advice. Families see their belt, stripes and attendance as plain numbers, and skills in plain words: covered, working on it, coming up next.

What Atlas holds to

  • The coach decides

Requirements inform a promotion and never block one. Every stripe and every belt is a coach's call, and Atlas never awards, removes or changes a rank on its own.

  • No comparisons

No rankings, no leaderboards. A family sees their own child's record, never another child's, and families can't message each other.

  • Almost no effort

No menus of techniques, no student data entry, no roll call. Students enrol themselves with the studio's code, and the studio approves them.

  • Each studio's records stay its own

A studio's students, classes and notes are kept apart from every other studio's. Its staff see its records, and each family sees only its own children.

Atlas is built for Brazilian jiu jitsu today, with its adult and kids belt ladders. Judo and karate are coming. Adult students enrol today; parents enrolling their children is coming.

A class, start to finish

  1. 1

    Before class: the plan

Open today's class and type, in your own words, what it will cover. Atlas turns it into technique chips from your studio's library. Keep them, remove one, or search for another.

  2. 2

    On the mat: nothing

Students check themselves in by scanning the studio's code. If someone forgot, tap their name to add them.

  3. 3

    After class: one tap

“We did what we planned” closes the class, or change what you actually covered first. Everyone who checked in is credited with every technique. Forgot? The class closes itself at the end of the day, with the plan, and you can correct it later.

What you never have to do

  • Work through a menu of techniques

You describe the class. Atlas does the matching, and learns your studio's own names for things.

  • Take attendance

Check-ins come from the students' own phones. You only add or remove the odd name.

  • Enter student details

Students enrol themselves with the studio's code, and an admin approves them.

  • Grade everyone, every class

Marking a skill is optional and deliberate. Most classes need nothing from you after the plan.

When you want more

  • “Has it”

Saw a student land it? Tap “Has it” beside their name for one of today's techniques. Your studio can allow finer levels, from learning to mastered, with notes and history.

  • Coach notes

Leave a short note on a student: “Focus on hip escapes this month.” Adult students and the parents of younger students see it; children never do.

  • Stripes with the facts in front of you

Before you award a stripe or a belt, see the student's time at rank, classes and skills against the requirements, as advice. The award is yours, and it's on the student's record straight away, with a notification wherever email or push is set up and switched on.

  • Gradings without the spreadsheet

For a grading day, Atlas proposes candidates as of that date (ready, close, and everyone else) each with a one-line reason. You choose who goes forward, then record pass or defer on the day.

Parents, handled

Parents ask through Atlas instead of catching you in the hallway, with prompts like “What should we practise at home?” Questions wait in one queue with the student's record beside them. Where your studio has drafted replies switched on, a draft built from that record is ready for you to edit, and nothing goes out until you send it. Or close the question, and the parent knows.

Questions

How long does logging a class really take?

One sentence and a confirm, before or after class. If you set the plan beforehand, closing the class afterwards is a single tap.

What if Atlas suggests the wrong technique?

Remove the chip, or search your library for the right one. Nothing is saved until you confirm. Your studio can add the names you use, which are matched first.

Is it AI deciding things?

No. Atlas matches your words to your studio's library, and can ask an AI model for help only when the match isn't clear. It never awards, removes or changes a rank, and drafted replies go out only when you send them.

Do parents see my skill marks?

Not as marks. Parents and adult students see skills in plain words (covered, working on it, coming up next) and never a skill named as missing. A child's own view shows only the areas they've covered, as progress. Raw levels stay with coaches and admins.

I coach at two studios. Does that work?

Yes. One account can belong to several studios, and each studio's records stay separate.

Do I need a laptop?

No. Atlas is built for the phone in your kit bag, and works on a computer too.
